I grew up in Lisbon, Portugal and completed a B.Sc. with Honours in Marine Biology in 2003, a Post-Graduation in Statistics Applied to Biology and Health Sciences in 2005, and a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences in 2009, at the University of Lisbon. I worked as a post doc at James Cook University (Australia, 4 years), University of the Ryukyus (Japan, 3 months), and University of Lisbon (Portugal, 6 months), before joining Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center in 2014. I am a marine larval ecologist with a special interest in marine invertebrates. I was originally trained in aquaculture, but for the past few years, I have been applying my larval culture skills and combining them with mathematical modelling to understand how environmental conditions determine important ecological processes, such dispersal and recruitment.
